To create the future together as “Global Citizen” – this message was not only conveyed but lived at the Harvard WorldMUN Conference 2009 which took place in Den Haag from 22nd to 28th of March. Overall, 2500 students from 53 countries and 275 different universities participated at the simulated conference of the United Nations, among them the delegation of Karlsruhe with 16 members.

Our delegation that represented the countries New Zealand and Guyana was represented in nine different committees, including the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Trade Organization (WTO) as well as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Parallel to the conference, the delegates had the opportunity to get to know each other, to exchange ideas and experiences, and to discuss about the world of tomorrow during various social events. One event of the first evening was the so called “Global Village” – a small village where the students presented their home countries and showed national specialties to curious delegates. Further social events in Den Haag and Amsterdam followed, making the WorldMUN an unforgettable experience for us.

On the last day of conference the delegation of Karlsruhe stood out again when we were presented with one of the desired Diplomacy Awards of the Harvard University during the closing ceremony. This prize awards delegates with outstanding diplomacy skills and a special ability of cooperation. We were the only awarded delegates coming from a technical university.
