Among 130 participants from over 38 nations there was Laura Carolin Freitag representing the MUNIKA for the very first time at the Milan International Model United Nations conference (MILMUN). Held from the 26th to May 31st the conference did not only attract delegates from all around the globe but was further honored by the presence of world-class representatives coming from the academic and political world. Vera P. Weill-Halle (Senior Advisor for Innovative Financing – International Fund for Agricultural Development) and Francesca Paltenghi (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Representative – Territorial Commission of Milan) to only name a few -contributed to the conference’s outstanding quality. The five committees were all placed under the theme “United We Stand – Cooperation in a Multipolar World.”
Laura Carolin Freitag assumed the responsible representation of the United States of America in the Human Rights Council. The agenda was set to debate the “Human Rights violations in the Middle East following the Syrian Crisis” first and to then move on to the topic of “Labor Rights in Emerging Economies” by the second half of the conference’s schedule. During the entire process of the committee Laura Carolin Freitag seized the opportunity granted by her position and successfully brought the negotiations forward. At the end, she became awarded as Best Delegate.
A conference is always distinguished from a great conference by the whole package comprising exciting debates blending well with exhilarating social events. MILMUN 2013 left nothing to be desired and will certainly become attended further by the MUNIKA delegation.
